JetHawks Unable to Win Despite Nine Walks and Four Quakes Errors

May 17, 2009 - California League (CalL) Lancaster JetHawks

(RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA) - The good news for the JetHawks on the current road trip is that they have had a chance to win each game. The bad news is that they've given up the lead in all three games and won just once. The pattern repeated Sunday afternoon in Rancho Cucamonga. Lancaster surrendered a pair of leads, then let a ninth inning rally fizzle as they were defeated by the Quakes 4-3.

For the third straight game, Lancaster put up multiple runs in the first inning. They took advantage of three walks given up by Quakes starter Alexander Torres. The newest JetHawk, outfielder Eric Suttle, made a positive impression in his first at bat by singling with the bases loaded to drive in two runs.

In a continuing trend, the Quakes did not take long to come back, tying the game in their half of the first inning. Two more walks and a sacrifice fly by Jon Gaston gave Lancaster another lead in the fourth inning, but the Quakes answered in bottom of the fourth to tie it again.

Rancho Cucamonga's middle relief shut down the JetHawks from the fifth through the eighth. Lancaster earned a chance to catch up in the ninth. Chris Minaker led off with a pinch-hit single, then J.B. Shuck walked to put two on with no one out. Marcos Cabral tried to bunt the runners over but ended up bunting into a double play while Koby Clemens struck out to end the game, leaving Shuck on second base.

While the Quakes commited four errors, only one led to a JetHawks run. Lancaster also drew a season-high nine walks.

The JetHawks end the series Monday morning in Rancho Cucamonga. The radio broadcast of the game on Magic 1340 and online at www.JetHawks.com begins with the Pre-Game Show at 10:30 AM. The first pitch of the game will be at 10:35.

The JetHawks return home for Military Appreciation Weekend, which kicks off Friday, May 22. The weekend will include fireworks, a mini-bat giveaway, a limited edition jersey auction and more. Great ticket packages, including season tickets and flexible mini-plans, are on sale now for the 2009 season and may be ordered by calling (661) 726-5400.
