Real Salt Lake News Release

SANDY, UTAH (Tuesday, March 3, 2009) - Real Salt Lake added a veteran piece to its roster by selecting MF Ned Grabavoy in today's MLS Waiver Draft, while also waiving a trio of players - DF Nik Besagno, MF Kevin Reiman, and D/M Brennan Tennelle. The full Real Salt Lake preseason camp roster for the team's upcoming trip to Charleston, SC, for the Carolina Challenge Cup is attached and listed below.

"At this point in the preseason, we feel fortunate to be able to add a veteran piece like Ned Grabavoy to our midfield, especially without having to give up anything on our end," said RSL General Manager Garth Lagerwey. "His winning pedigree and versatility will certainly be welcome additions to our group both on and off the field."

The 25-year-old Grabavoy comes to Real Salt Lake from the San Jose Earthquakes, where he started 21 of his 24 appearances for the expansion side in 2008, notching four assists along the way. The Indiana University product began his now 94-game MLS career (5 goals/14 assists) after being drafted by the Los Angeles Galaxy in the second round of the 2004 MLS SuperDraft. After spending a little more than two seasons with the squad - including its MLS Cup championship season in '04 - Grabavoy was acquired in a trade by the Columbus Crew, where he spent the majority of the 2006 and all of the 2007 campaigns before being selected by the 'Quakes in the 2007 MLS Expansion Draft.

Grabavoy arrived in Salt Lake City this morning and will be available for comment after Real Salt Lake's training session this afternoon at XanGo Field in Lehi, which begins at 2:00 p.m. MT and will be followed by media availability for all players and coaches beginning at approximately 3:30 p.m.
