Schneider wins Top Goalie Award at AHL All-Star Skills Competition

The Manitoba Moose, in conjunction with the American Hockey League, are pleased to announce goaltender Cory Schneider was named the winner of the Reebok Top Goalie Award at the 2009 AHL All-Star Skills Competition at the DCU Centre in Worcester, MA earlier today as part of the 2009 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Charter Communications. Schneider was previously named the starting goalie for the PlanetUSA All-Stars for the all-star game to be played Monday night.

Schneider, 22, set an AHL All-Star record by stopping 18 of the 19 shots he faced in the competition to pace the PlanetUSA All-Stars to an 18-12 victory in the skills competition over the Canadian All-Stars.

Schneider is the AHL's leading goaltender so far this season as he has a record of 16-2-0 in 19 appearances with a goals against average of 1.61 and a save percentage of .940. The Marblehead, MA native also has a pair of shutouts this season. He already set a new franchise record earlier this season by winning 13 consecutive games. He was also named the Reebok/X-Pulse AHL Goalie of the Month for the month of November.

Schneider has played in 55 games in his two-year pro career with the Moose. Last season, he compiled a record of 20-12-2 with a goals against average of 2.28 and a save percentage of .913 - both of which ranked second amongst AHL rookie netminders. Schneider was named the Rbk Edge/AHL Rookie of the Month for March and started all six Calder Cup games for Manitoba in the playoffs where he posted a 2-4 record with a 1.92 goals against average and a .938 save percentage.

Schneider also made his first-ever appearance in the NHL earlier this season when appeared in eight games with the Vancouver Canucks and compiled a record of 2-4-1 with a goals against average of 3.38 and a save percentage of .877. He made his NHL debut Nov. 29 @ Calgary where he stopped 28 of 31 shots in a 3-0 defeat. He earned his first-ever NHL win Dec. 5 @ Minnesota after stopping 16 of 17 shots.

Schneider was originally drafted by Vancouver in the first round, 26th overall, in the 2004 NHL entry draft.
