Huntsville Stars News Release
Stars fans, there are a couple hot dogs in this year's election and here's your chance to vote for the best one. This Saturday, November 1st, the Huntsville Stars will host Operation Clean Sweep II at Joe Davis Stadium and during the course of the day those fans that join us for the day or cleaning will receive their chance to vote for the 2009 Hot Dog of the year, a.k.a. the official hot dog of Joe Davis Stadium!
Here's the skinny: we'll open the gates and begin knocking off items from a litany/plethora/humongous honey-do list of stadium operations tasks. Those that wish to join us as we did last season will receive lunch and a ticket voucher for hours worked. Our inventory is limited on clean-up items such as rakes, brooms, paint brushes, etc., so if you have those items, please bring them along.
We'll have eight different samples of hot dogs available for fans to taste test during the day. This is critical to our future because you will be voting for the best tasting hot dog. You will not know what brand or style that you're voting on, so it won't influence the voting. If you do have specific dietary, allergy or religious restrictions when it comes to hot dogs, please let us know in advance so we can eliminate any item that may affect you negatively. But in the end you fans will select the hot dog that will served at Joe Davis Stadium next season. If you're a connoisseur of the stadium tube steak, then this day was made for you! Vote early and vote often on Saturday. We'll announce the winner on Monday.
Now, good news from the Southern League meetings in Marietta, Georgia, yesterday. There are now nine of the 10 teams in the league that have agreed to honor the season ticket holder card to allow Stars season ticket holders to get in free to Stars road games. The only holdout at this time is Montgomery, but we're anxiously and patiently awaiting their response. So, season ticket holders, you'll be admitted free to all Huntsville Stars road games next season simply by presenting your season ticket holder card at the opposing stadium's box office. Each team will establish their own rules regarding where your seats will be, etc., however, most of the GMs that I spoke to will attempt to put our season ticket holders close to the Stars dugout. Your seats will be based on availability, just like the Will Call Pass List every night, but we view this as a major victory for our season ticket holders.
For those that will be attending the Southern League All-Star Game in Birmingham next summer, the Barons have scheduled the game's Home Run Derby to be held at historic Rickwood Field on Sunday, the night before the All-Star Game.
The Stars are also looking for a signature food item for Joe Davis Stadium. We have - and will never get rid of - Billy Ray's Cheese steaks, but we need that one item that will be a stadium highlight. Just recently I had the luxury of taste testing something very interesting that has made its way onto our hot list of menu ideas for 2009: for those that like something with a kick you will love Mimi's Flaming Monkey Butt. If you have an idea or menu that you think is the next greatest thing to hit the taste buds, we need to know about it. Send your idea to babs@huntsvillestars.com.

We're laying out our 2009 promo schedule and we need some local businesses that want to stretch their advertising dollars in a fun way! The Huntsville Stars 2008 Fall Kids Baseball Camp will be held next Saturday, November 8th, from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm at Joe Davis Stadium. The camp is open to kids 6 -14 and ALL CAMPERS MUST PRE-REGISTER! We can email you a registration form, but we need it back by Thursday, October 30th, at 5:00 pm! The cost of the all-day camp is $100 and includes lunch, a Homer the Polecat baseball, a T-Shirt, instruction, lunch and a Camper's car that can be presented at the Box Office on game days to receive a free ticket the game...the tickets alone pay for this camp! You do the math! You have two days to register and then it's on like Donkey Kong! The next Stars baseball camp won't be until this summer and by them you could've saved well over the $100 worth of game tickets. Hey, call me kooky, but if you want to pay full price at the gate for the kids, you can, but this is the time to get you kid some first class instruction, souvenirs, lunch and a card that can get him or her a game ticket for all 70 Stars home games in 2009! If you want a registration form simply email babs@huntsvillestars.com. Type BASEBALL CAMP REGISTRATION in the subject line and she'll email it right back to you.
That's it for today. Don't forget to head out to The Joe this Saturday for OCS II and official hot dog voting. It's time to let the fans decide! I'm Buck Rogers and I approve this message.
