Frisco RoughRiders News Release
The RoughRiders outscored the Travelers 3-1 in a pitchers' duel to take game four and even the series at two games each
The RoughRiders (2-2) forced a decisive game five Monday night by defeating the Arkansas Travelers (2-2) by a score of 3-1 Sunday night. Frisco ace, Derek Holland, turned in another excellent performance pitching six scoreless innings but came away with a no-decision.
The pitchers duel lasted until the seventh inning where the RoughRiders scored three runs to take the lead. Steve Murphy got the inning started with a bunt single and reached second on an error. Tim Gradoville then reached base with a sacrifice bunt that advanced Murphy to third. Two batters later, Elvis Andrus singled and drove in the first run of the ballgame. Later in the inning, a Traveler error allowed Chad Tracy to reach and Gradoville and Andrus to score giving the 'Riders a 3-0 edge.
Arkansas made it interesting in the eighth when Jordan Czarniecki walked and later scored on a base hit by Nate Sutton. After a pitching change, Beau Jones came into the game to close the inning with Frisco still on top 3-1. The veteran, Brandon Puffer, closed the game in the ninth, retiring the Travelers in order.
Holland went six innings striking six while allowing just two hits. Clayton Hamilton (1-0) pitched 1 2/3 innings allowing a run on one hit and earned the win in relief of Holland. Puffer pitched the ninth and earned the save.
The 2008 Texas League Champion will be crowned Monday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark between the RoughRiders and Travelers. RHP Neftali Feliz (2-0) will take the mound for Frisco against Arkansas' Dan Denham (1-0) with first pitch at 7 p.m.
