PORT HURON, MI - The Port Huron Icehawks recently asked the public for help in naming their new mini-mascot, sponsored by Kerr Albert, and they have narrowed the list down to the top ten.

The top ten entries are: Chipper, Talon, Mo-Hawk, Squawky, Screech, Hat Trick Hawk, Winger, The Incredible Hawk, Checker and Huey.

The winning name will be selected by Icehawks management and unveiled at the home opener on Friday, October 17. The fan who submitted the winning name will receive an Icehawks prize pack, tickets to the home opener and the opportunity to introduce the mini-mascot on the ice.

"We received a number of fun and creative entries from our fans," Icehawks Game Day Coordinator Kelly Carroll said. "We are confident we will be able to select a name that will suit the new mascot and his mischievous personality."

The mini-mascot's name will not be revealed until the opening game, but fans will have an opportunity to get an early look at him. He will make his first appearance at Kerr Albert Office Supplies in Port Huron at the beginning of October. More details will follow.

The mini-mascot will accompany original mascot Hawkey at Icehawks home games and at appearances throughout the community.

Interviews will be held on Wednesday, September 10 at the Icehawks office, 325 Huron Avenue, Port Huron. You may also call Austin Parks at 810-966-3800 to set up an alternate interview date.

The Icehawks open the International Hockey League season with a Turner Cup Finals rematch versus the Fort Wayne Komets at home on Friday, October 17.
