VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC (12-6-6) aim to move into first place in the USL First Division standings when they host Atlanta Silverbacks (8-9-8) at Swangard Stadium on Wednesday evening.

After completing a busy week of league action with a 2-1 victory at home to Portland Timbers on Friday night, Teitur Thordarson's side now look to be in the lone position of contesting USL-1 leaders Puerto Rico Islanders for the regular season title. Prior to Friday's win, the Whitecaps were left frustrated by two goalless draws versus Puerto Rico and Seattle Sounders, despite playing well enough to win both contests last week. Thanks to a two goal performance by striker Nicholas Addlery, Vancouver were able to find the scoresheet against the Timbers and claim three valuable points. The Whitecaps are now only one win away from claiming a playoff spot for the 12th straight season.

Having earned a well-deserved weekend off after their win over the Timbers, Thordarson's squad now look to their third and final regular season meeting with Atlanta before heading to the Caribbean on Thursday and their crucial two-game stint with the Islanders. The Whitecaps know the Silverbacks well after playing them twice this month. On August 5, youngsters Luca Bellisomo and Admir Salihovic scored their first-ever USL-1 goals for the club, but it was not enough to prevent Vancouver from going down to a 3-2 defeat in Atlanta. The Blue & White then earned a measure of revenge at Swangard on August 10, as Eduardo Sebrango scored twice in a 3-2 victory over the Silverbacks.

USL-1 clubs from Atlanta lead Vancouver with an all-time record of eight wins, seven defeats, and two draws, though the Whitecaps have a more favorable home record with Georgia-based outfits. The latest win took Vancouver's all-time record to six wins, two defeats, and a draw versus Atlanta teams, which includes five wins and a draw at Swangard, two defeats at BC Place in 1995, and a victory up north in Prince George, British Columbia, in 1996.
