(Halifax, N.S.) Halifax Rainmen owner Andre Levingston and Coach Rick Lewis want to extend congratulations to former Rainmen Peter Benoite on his new position of Head Coach for Newfoundland's Memorial University's Men's basketball program.
Benoite served as captain for the Halifax Rainmen last season. A native of Little Barasway, NL, Peter graduated with a degree in mathematics and statistics and was an academic all-Canadian in each of his five seasons at Memorial. Levingston believes Benoite was a natural choice for the job.
"I couldn't be happier for Peter. His skill and knowledge of the sport along with his integrity will make him a fine head coach," said Levingston.
Benoite also served as Honourary Chair for the AUS final 6 championships held in Halifax last March. Coach Rick Lewis is not surprised that Benoite was chosen for the top spot.
"Peter set an example for all members of the team last season," said Lewis. Players looked up to him, not only for his skill but for his spirit and confidence. Peter was a go-to guy at the net and always consistent in his performance."
Benoite says he plans to come back to Halifax in the near future to cheer on the Rainmen.
