Lancaster JetHawks News Release
(LANCASTER, CA) - A pitcher's duel turned ugly late Tuesday night at Clear Channel Stadium. The score was 3-0 going into the eighth inning, but poor relief pitching and defense by the JetHawks allowed Lake Elsinore to score ten times between the eighth and ninth innings as they beat Lancaster 13-1. The JetHawks fell out of first place and are now a game behind Rancho Cucamonga.
Both starting pitchers were on their game early. JetHawks starter Travis Beazley struck out a season-high eight batters and only gave up five hits in six and 1/3 innings. Unfortunately for Beazley, three of the hits were solo home runs while the JetHawks struggled offensively behind him.
Lancaster did not score against Storm starter Drew Miller, yet they trailed just 3-0 going into the eighth inning. However, the Storm scored five times in the eighth and then a pair of errors helped lead to five more runs in the ninth as Lake Elsinore pulled away.
The JetHawks only run came on a solo home run by Yamaico Navarro in the eighth inning. Zak Farkes, the reigning California League Offensive Player of the Week, had two more hits. Jon Still's sixth inning single extended his season-best hitting streak to nine straight games.
The JetHawks continue a six-game homestand Wednesday night against Lake Elsinore. Chris Jones (5-5) starts for Lancaster while the Storm counter with Nathan Culp (9-6). The game starts at 7:00 PM. The radio coverage is broadcast live on Magic 1340 AM and online at www.JetHawks.com.
