Vancouver Whitecaps News Release
VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced today that forward Dever Orgill of the Vancouver Whitecaps FC Residency squad has been called up to the Jamaica's U-20 national team. The forward will join the squad for a short training camp in Jamaica from July 7 to 9, before travelling to the Cayman Islands for the CFU/CONCACAF qualifying round. Orgill and the U-20 Reggae Boyz will face Puerto Rico on July 23, Bermuda on July 25, and the Cayman Islands on July 27.
The six-foot, 150-pound native of Port Antonio, Jamaica, has appeared in seven PDL games for the Whitecaps this season and has scored two goals. Orgill was also called up to the Whitecaps United Soccer Leagues First Division side earlier this season, but has yet to see action with the first team. Orgill joined the Residency program last September and has performed well in major international youth tournaments. Most notably, last March, Orgill scored goals against the academy sides of Germany's Eintracht Frankfurt and England's Leicester City at Dallas Cup XXIX.
Internationally, Orgill has represented his country on numerous occasions although this will mark his first time at the U-20 level. Orgill was the captain of the 2007 Jamaican side at the CONCACAF U-17 World Cup qualifiers and scored the game-tying goal against the USA, as the Reggae Boyz went on to defeat The Stars & Stripes 3-2. The striker also scored five goals in six games at the 2006 Caribbean Cup. These included goals against Canada, Cuba and Mexico.
In 2005, Orgill earned the Golden Boot award in the Caribbean Football Union's Under-15 tournament held in Trinidad & Tobago after scoring 12 times in six games. In total, Orgill has scored 22 goals in his 22 international youth appearances with Jamaica.
Orgill departs for Jamaica on Friday, July 4, and returns to Vancouver and the Whitecaps on Tuesday, August 12.
