Lancaster JetHawks News Release
(MYRTLE BEACH, SC) -Three Lancaster JetHawks players earned the honor of participating in the annual All-Star game between the best of the California League and the best of the Carolina League. Starting third baseman Jorge Jimenez, designated hitter Jon Still, and relief pitcher Richie Lentz all represented the California League at this year's contest at the home of the Myrtle Beach Pelicans in South Carolina. The game featured strong pitching from both leagues until a two-run homer in the eighth inning led the Carolina League to a 3-1 victory.
All three JetHawks saw time in the game. Lentz was the most successful, striking out two Carolina League All-Stars in a scoreless fifth inning as a relief pitcher. Jimenez and Still each played the whole game while going 0-4.
The festivities started early with the annual Home Run Derby. With four players from each league competing, it looked for most of the opening round like Still was going to make it to the finals after clubbing three home runs. However, San Jose Giants catcher Pablo Sandoval warmed up late in his turn and hit four home runs to advance. Myrtle Beach's Ernesto Mejia ended up winning the event with three home runs in the final.
The regular season will resume Thursday night as the JetHawks open a four-game homestand against the Inland Empire 66ers. Game time Thursday is 7 PM. The radio and internet coverage on Magic 1340 AM and www.JetHawks.com begins with the pre-game show at 6:45.
It will be a $1,000 Thursday at Clear Channel Stadium. A lucky JetHawks fan will have the chance to win $1,000 presented by Beaven Insurance. Fans can also purchase domestic draught beers for just $1 through the sixth inning thanks to Cheers Buck Beers, presented by Coach's Sports Bar and Grill.
Individual game tickets for all JetHawks home games, including playoff games, are available in person at the JetHawks Box Office Monday - Friday from 10 AM - 5 PM or Saturdays from 10 AM - 3 PM. Great ticket packages for multiple games are also available starting at just $56 for eight games. More information can be found on-line at www.JetHawks.com.
