Binghamton Senators News Release

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators proudly announced today that the third annual Face Off Against Cancer, presented by Lourdes and held during the B-Sens game against Springfield on Saturday, April 5, generated more than $21,207.79 for the American Cancer Society and Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.

A significant portion of the fundraising effort came from the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer raffle, organized by team captain Denis Hamel and assistant captain Matt Carkner with the American Cancer Society. All 500 raffle tickets ($50 each) were sold, which generated an amazing $10,000 for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.

The grand prize and all subsequent winning raffle tickets were drawn at center ice by a cancer survivor in a ceremony immediately following the B-Sens game against Springfield. The winners are as follows:

Grand Prize - $10,000 - Chris and Tom Hurlbut

Second Prize - $3,000 - Jeffery Liccion II

Third Prize - $2,000 - Rita Matthews

Fourth Prize - Dinner for 3 with Denis Hamel - Tricia Matthews

Fifth Prize - Couch valued at $2,000 (Ellis Bros) - David DoBell

Sixth Prize - 2008-09 Binghamton Senators Sky Box for one night - Mike Husar

Seventh Prize - Two tickets to a 2008-09 Ottawa Senators Home Game - Louie Augostini

The Binghamton Senators wore one-of-a-kind Binghamton Mets-themed jerseys during their game against the Falcons. The game-worn and game-issued jerseys were then auctioned off live after the game, generating an additional $6,530.24 for the American Cancer Society.

While the B-Sens battled the Falcons on the ice, various Relay For Life teams were fundraising on the main concourse of the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena. In total, the Relay For Life teams raised another $2,291.75.

The B-Sens added another $1,210.80 for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer through various raffles which included 2008 AHL All-Star jerseys for both Denis Hamel and Lawrence Nycholat.

Special Face Off Against Cancer pucks were used by both teams during warm-ups. In addition, all B-Sens players used sticks wrapped with pink tape during warm-ups. These items were then sold on the concourse and generated $1,175 for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.

A survivor's lap was held during the first intermission of the game, with 31 cancer survivors and their families taking part in the lap around the ice.
