ABA adds Hamilton, Ontario for 2008

November 9, 2007 - American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release

Hamilton, ON. The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that Hamilton, Ontario will have an expansion team for the 2008-2009 season. "We are very excited that Brian Luckman is bringing professional basketball to one of Canada's best basketball areas," said Joe Newman. "With teams set for Quebec City, Montreal, Ottawa, Mississaugua, and Halifax, it is the perfect complement to our expansion in Canada and the people doing it are very impressive indeed."

The team will be owned by Brian Luckman, a life-long entrepreneur, who brings a lot of energy and passion to everything he does. Born in Trinidad and raised in New York City, Brian was educated at Rutgers University. His business interests have been diverse and have prepared him for the kinds of things that will make the Hamilton ABA team a success. He has had interests in real estate, restaurants in Toronto and New Jersey and concert promotions. His "In the Mood" restaurants were Jazz-themed lounges that combined entertainment with great food and he has promoted concerts for the last 15 years in Trinidad, New Jersey, New York and Toronto. Brian now lives outside of Toronto with his wife and three children.

"This is a great opportunity for me to combine two passions of mine - basketball and entrepreneurship," stated Luckman. "I am very confident that we are going to create something special here in Hamilton. I amn excited to create a first class organization."

At a press conference in Hamilton, Luckman also announced that Chris Childs, a 10-year NBA veteran, will be the club's General Manager. "Chris brings the experience, connections and love for the game that will put a winning product on the floor," added Luckman.

"I am excited to be back in the area that I enjoyed when I played for the Raptors and I look forward to the challenge," stated Childs.

Hamilton will be playing in Copps Coliseum. It is a world class facility that has hosted international events such as the 1987 Canada Cup, the 1994 World Basketball Championships as well as many concerts by top acts.
