Tavares Named CHL Player Of The Year

VANCOUVER, Saturday, May 26, 2007 - John Tavares took home the top prize at the Canadian Hockey League annual awards ceremony held in Vancouver on Saturday. After finishing among the top point-getters in the CHL this season, Tavares was named the RBK Player of the Year. The Oshawa General finished second in the CHL scoring race by tallying 72 goals and 134 points in 67 games.

Patrick Kane of the London Knights won the BMO Rookie of the Year, the Boston Pizza Top Scorer and the NAPA Auto Parts Top Draft Prospect awards. He scored 58 goals and 145 points in 58 games as a freshman with the Knights.

QMJHL representatives took home three laurels. Clément Jodoin of the Lewiston MAINEiacs was named the Go Rving Brian Kilrea Coach of the Year after he led the MAINEiacs to a remarkable 50-win season along with a first-place finish in the overall standings. Alexandre Picard-Hooper of the Baie-Comeau Drakkar was named the Subway Scholastic Player of the Year while David Desharnais of the Chicoutimi Saguenéens received the Prospects Hockey Sportsman of the Year award.

Other award-winners on Saturday included Carey Price of the Tri-City Americans as the ADT Goaltender of the Year, Kris Russell of the Medicine Hat Tigers as the Air Canada Defenseman of the Year and Kyle Moir of the Swift Current Broncos as the Home Hardware Humanitarian of the Year.
