NBA TV highlights 2006 Detroit Shock on "The Run"

January 26, 2007 - Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA)
Detroit Shock News Release

NBA TV will trace the Detroit Shock's remarkable 2006 season, culminating in their victory over defending champion Sacramento Monarchs, in the WNBA Finals on the next edition of The Run on Monday, Jan. 29 at 8 p.m. ET.

Told in a distinct first-person narrative, this NBA TV series goes in-depth with behind-the-scenes access to tell the most compelling stories that help shape the sport of basketball. Previous episodes have featured Dwyane Wade of the Miami Heat leading his team to the 2006 NBA Championship, LeBron James making his first playoff run during the 2006 NBA Playoffs; and Elton Brand recalling his team's historic playoff journey when he helped the Los Angeles Clippers end their 30-year postseason draught.

"Winning championships is always a highlight of what you try to accomplish," says Detroit Shock head coach Bill Laimbeer. "It's what you play for. It's the only reason I played as a basketball player, and the only reason I've coached. Winning them, especially through some adversity, makes it even more gratifying."

As Laimbeer guides his team, featuring WNBA All-Stars Deanna Nolan, Swin Cash, Katie Smith, Cheryl Ford and Ruth Riley, he instills in them the same passion and skill sets he utilized as a two-time NBA champion for Detroit's other team - the Pistons.

"We have worked hard all season long and this is what we've played for," says Laimbeer, addressing his team before Game 5 of the WNBA finals. "How bad do you want it? I know I want it. Let's go out there and bring it home."
