Cannons Christmas MLL Warrior Most Improved Player

Major League Lacrosse, the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced Thursday, that Boston attackman John Christmas has been honored as the 2006 Warrior Most Improved Player. The award was based on votes submitted by the General Manager of each of the 10 MLL teams. Christmas, along with other MLL honorees will be acknowledged on Saturday at the 20065 Major League Lacrosse Wards Luncheon.
The second year player out of Virginia has shown tremendous improvement from last year to this. As a rookie last season, Christmas scored five goals and added three assists for eight points and he finished the season as the team's eighth leading scorer. Christmas was relegated to role player due to playing behind a star studded lineup that included league Co-MVP Mark Millon and Kevin Leveille, who notched 39 goals last year.
With those two players gone this season due to expansion, Christmas has moved into a starring role. This season, Christmas notched 21 goals and added 16 assists for 37 points, good for second on the team behind former Virginia teammate Conor Gill. His breakout game came against the Long Island Lizards in the second game of the season when he notched a hat-trick and one assist for four points. In his next three games, Christmas scored at lest four points and had a four goal, one assist performance against San Francisco on June 17th.
The Warrior Most Improved Player award originated in 2004 as Leveille was named the inaugural winner. Former Rochester attackman and current member of the Los Angeles Riptide, Andrew "Buggs" Combs won the award last season.
