Bechard named Coach of the Year

March 24, 2006 - SPHL (SPHL) News Release

HUNTSVILLE, AL - Columbus Cottonmouths head coach Jerome Bechard has been named the SPHL Coach of the Year by the league's coaches.

Bechard led the Cottonmouths to a 34-16-6 record and a second place finish in the SPHL standings. Columbus started the season 4-7-2 in October and November before going 10-2-1 in December. They were 20-7-3 after the first of the year.

"It's the result of me surrounding myself with good people," Bechard said. "All I did was give the boys a plan and they executed it. I have two teams to worry about, my players and my front office. I work hard to lead both of them and it looks like it's contagious. Everything is easier when you have great ownership and it feels like the whole city is standing behind you."

Bechard led the Cottonmouths to the inaugural President's Cup Championship last season. He leads Columbus back into the playoffs this season when they host the Huntsville Havoc in a best-of-three series beginning tonight in Columbus.
