Texas Leaguers Dominate Team USA Roster

USA Baseball officially announced today, their 24-man roster that will compete in the upcoming 2005 CONCEBE Olympic Regional Qualifying Tournament. The tournament will be held in Phoenix beginning November 15th, and will feature teams from the United States, Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaragua and Panama.
Two of the players on the roster for Team USA will be very recognizable for Springfield Cardinals fans, as Travis Hanson and Chris Lambert, both of whom are currently in the Arizona Fall League playing for the Surprise Scorpions, were both selected to the club.
Hanson was an offensive leader this year for Springfield, batting .284 with 20 home runs and 97 RBIs in 137 games. The Port Orchard, WA native was selected to both the Texas League mid-season and post-season All-Star Teams.
Lambert rolled through Class A for the Florida State League's Palm Beach Cardinals, posting a 7-1 mark with an ERA of 2.63 in ten starts. After being named to the Florida State League's mid-season All-Star Team, Lambert was promoted to Springfield, going 3-8 with a 6.35 ERA in 18 starts. The former BC Eagle also pitched in the Future's Game earlier this year in Detroit for the United States Team.
Of the 24 players on the roster, seven played in the Texas League in 2005 and a total of 11 were Texas Leaguers at some point in the last three years.
Four of the six teams competing will advance to the Americas Olympic Qualifier, which takes place in August, 2006 in Havana. The Olympics will take place in Beijing, China in 2008.
