
CFL unveils 2006 Grey Cup logo

Winnipeg, MB - (October 16, 2005) - The Canadian Football League and the 2006 Grey Cup Committee, today unveiled the 2006 Grey Cup logo at a media conference at Canad Inns Stadium in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Making the announcement, Lyle Bauer, President of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers was joined by, Manitoba Minister of Transportation and Government Services Ron Lemieux, Deputy Mayor Gord Steeves, Ken Hildahl, Blue Bomber Governor, Gene Dunn, Chairman of the 2006 Grey Cup Committee, and Brent Scrimshaw, CFL Senior Vice President of Marketing & Partnerships.
In speaking to the development of the new logo, Brent Scrimshaw described the design as, "reinforcing the Grey Cup's unique connection with Canada through the strong use of the Maple Leaf, its connection to Manitoba through the bold and forward-looking depiction of the iconic bison and the celebration of the history of football in Winnipeg in the application of Bomber blue and gold."
The logo was developed by Barnstorm Communications of Vancouver, the creative house responsible for the design of Grey Cup marks for the past four years.
Chairman of the Blue Bombers Board of Directors and CFL Board of Governor member, Ken Hildahl re-enforced the importance of the Grey Cup in Winnipeg: "The Winnipeg Football Club, its Board of Directors and staff are pleased to kick-off the next 75 years of football history here in Winnipeg in 2006 by hosting one of North America's most storied championships, the Grey Cup. Hosting an event of this magnitude is another key component in building the financial stability and long-term future of this organization. Representing our province, our city, our community and of course, our country's championship game, this mark brings to life the look of Grey Cup 2006."

"We are proud to unveil the new mark for the 2006 Grey Cup, and can't wait to share in the magic of the game and the 2006 Grey Cup festival when it returns to Winnipeg in November next year."
The Grey Cup is Canada's largest professional sporting event. Celebrated by Canadians coast-to-coast, this unique Canadian championship game has attracted an average television audience of more than 4.2 million viewers over the past three years. Winnipeg last hosted the Grey Cup on November 22, 1998 where Calgary defeated Hamilton 26-24.
