Southern League Lands Television Deal

March 8, 2004 - Southern League (SL1) News Release

MARIETTA, GA – The Southern League of Professional Baseball Clubs and Comcast Sports Southeast/Charter Sports Southeast (CSS) have announced a broadcast agreement for a Southern League Game of the Week package to air on ten successive Saturdays during the 2004 season.

"I'm very happy that we're teaming with CSS to bring Southern League baseball to our region's great fans," Southern League President Don Mincher said. "The presence on CSS will enhance our product and showcase the tremendous talent present in Double-A baseball."

"I'm thankful for the tremendous help from Brian Cox of Tennessee and the rest of the Southern League Marketing Committee in getting this deal finalized," Mincher stated. "I think CSS is just as excited as we are. They are a class organization and will be a great partner."

In the only current deal of its kind in Minor League Baseball, CSS will air Southern League games to 4 million homes in 11 states throughout the southeast, allowing for a regional broadcast that fits directly into the footprint of the Southern League.

"The Southern League Game of the Week is live summer programming that our subscribers can only get through CSS on cable," said Mike Sheehey, Comcast Vice President and General Manager of CSS. "We're looking forward to bringing the Southern League's baseball tradition into the homes of our viewers throughout the region."

The series will begin June 26 with the defending Southern League Champion Carolina Mudcats (Marlins) visiting the Jacksonville Suns (Dodgers). The broadcasts will feature every Southern League team at least once and home games for seven of the league's ten members.
