New York Liberty News Release
New York (February 18, 2004) - The New York Liberty has re-signed All-Star guard Becky Hammon to a multi-year contract. The announcement was made today by New York Liberty Senior Vice President and General Manager, Carol Blazejowski.
Hammon, 26, averaged 14.7 points per game and led the team in three-point percentage (.469) and field-goal percentage (.575) in 2003 prior to suffering a season-ending torn ACL. Despite only playing in 11 games, the South Dakota native was selected to the 2003 WNBA Eastern Conference All-Star team for the first time in her career.
"Becky is a key piece of the New York Liberty franchise and our future," said Blazejowski. "She has proven herself to be an outstanding scorer and aggressive defender. Last season, Becky elevated her game to another level and we expect the same from her in 2004 and in the years to come."
Conditions of the contract were not released per team policy.
The New York Liberty basketball team, in its eighth year of operation with the 2004 season, is part of the Madison Square Garden, L.P. Cablevision Systems Corporation owns a controlling interest in the MSG L.P., which also include the New York Knicks (NBA), the New York Rangers (NHL), the Hartford Wolfpack (American Hockey League), the MSG Network, Fox Sports New York and the Madison Square Garden arena complex, located in the heart of the New York metropolitan area.
