\'Perfect' Hamdan named Offensive Player of Week
April 4, 2006 - National Football League Europa (NFLE) News Release
AMSTERDAM Admirals quarterback GIBRAN HAMDAN has been named Offensive Player of the Week after pitching the football equivalent of a perfect game while leading his club to a 38-20 defeat of the Frankfurt Galaxy in Week 3.
Hamdan, allocated by the Seattle Seahawks, compiled the highest-possible passer rating of 158.3 by completing 12 of 15 attempts for 189 yards and 3 touchdowns. He became the first NFL Europe League quarterback to reach that mark since Craig Nall of the Scottish Claymores (at Barcelona Dragons) in Week 9 of the 2003 season.
Through three games, Hamdan leads NFL Europe with 644 passing yards and 5 touchdowns and ranks second with a passer rating of 99.1. Amsterdam's offense ranks first in NFL Europe, averaging 343.7 yards per game.
Admirals head coach BART ANDRUS is relishing having Hamdan back on his team for a third year in a row, stating: "It is an advantage because you don't have many players come back - let alone a quarterback. The leadership position he is in means he has an effect on the entire team."
Cologne Centurions linebacker DAVID BERGERON (Carolina Panthers) was named Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts during his team's 20-10 loss at the hands of the league-leading Rhein Fire.
Bergeron led the Centurions with 11 tackles and added a first quarter interception. Through three games, the outside linebacker has recorded 16 tackles and jointly leads NFL Europe with 2 interceptions.
Special Teams Player of the Week honors went to Centurions punter GABE LINDSTROM, who was allocated to NFL Europe by the Seattle Seahawks.
Lindstrom, who played for the Frankfurt Galaxy in 2002, punted 6 times for a 49.3 average with a long of 63 yards. He also placed 2 kicks inside the opponent's 20-yard line and ended the day with a net average of 43.5.
Lindstrom leads NFL Europe with an average of 42.7 on 15 punts with 5 dropping inside the 20-yard line.
German defensive end CHRISTIAN MOHR, who spent the 2004 NFL season on the practice squad of the Seattle Seahawks, was named National Player of the Week after leading the Berlin Thunder's defensive effort during their 17-17 tie with the Hamburg Sea Devils.
Mohr recorded 7 tackles and half a sack, taking his season total to 13 tackles, half a sack and 1 pass batted down.
