American Indoor Football Comes to Savannah

December 23, 2014 - American Indoor Football (AIF) News Release


Savannah GA - American Indoor Football (AIF) CEO John Morris is proud to announce that an ownership group, led by Bobby Dammarell, have come to an agreement to bring the Savannah Steam into the AIF for the 2015 Season. The AIF is a professional indoor football league with a footprint in the Mid-West, East Coast and down into the Mid-South. The AIF teams play in venues that seat anywhere from 2,000 to 15,000 fans. The AIF season runs March through May of each year.

"We proudly welcome the Savannah Steam to AIF," said AIF CEO John Morris. "This is a great development that will elevate the league to new heights in that region. We look forward to an intense brand of Indoor Football that will captivate the great city of Savannah." Morris goes on to say, "We will always look at what's best for all of our member teams. The AIF is as strong as our teams can take us and this just made us a stronger league."

This addition by the AIF will be the second team in the state of Georgia. The Steam will play their home games at Tiger Arena located on the Savannah State Campus.

"When the Steam established themselves in Savannah we had one goal in mind, to play at the highest level we could achieve against the best talent we could find." Stated Bobby Dammarell, owner of the Savannah Steam. "It's hard not to believe we're on the right path with all of the opportunity that the AIF affords a team."

"We couldn't be more excited to become part of the AIF family. The league officials and affiliated organizations have set the gold standard in how to prosper in both business and competitive play. You'll be hard-pressed to find a team prouder to be part of this organization, than the Savannah Steam." Said Joseph Chiariello General Manager of the Steam.

The state of Georgia is one of the most vibrant and proud football communities in the country. The region has filled stadiums for countless games. Savannah's architecture, history, and reputation for southern charm and hospitality are internationally known. The city's promotional name is "Hostess City of the South," a phrase still used by the city government. Each year, Savannah attracts millions of visitors from across the country and around the world. The Steam will afford the city another entertainment outlet for everyone to enjoy.

Said Larry Clark, Director of Operations for the AIF, "We are pleased with this move by AIF to increase our presence in the Georgia market and to enhance the opportunity for the Savannah indoor football fans to enjoy a high-level play in their own city. We look forward to the opportunity to work with the ownership group to create something very special."
