Professional Arena Soccer League Update

November 12, 2013 - Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL) News Release

Streak-busting Sidekicks Foil Sockers Again

11/12/13 - The Dallas Sidekicks didn't reach the final four last year, but they did beat the San Diego Sockers, ending their winning streak at 48 games. Saturday they were at it again, handing San Diego a 5-3 loss and disappointing a modern Sockers record 5,658 fans.

This time the Sidekicks put an end to San Diego's 46-game home winning streak. The Sockers had also been a perfect 32-0 at home in the regular season since joining the PASL in 2009.

Maybe just as surprising, the Harrisburg Heat traveled to two-time Newman Cup finalist Detroit Waza Flo and came away with an 8-7 overtime upset.

Bust just as fast as prognosticators could adjust their season predictions, Dallas went to Ontario and lost 6-5 to the Fury while Harrisburg was humbled by the Cleveland Freeze, 11-3.

Player of the Week

Efrain "Wilo" Martinez, Chicago Mustangs

Martinez scored his second hat trick in two games since joining the Mustangs in the offseason from the Rio Grande Valley Flash. Martinez starred in the LMFR with Tlaquepaque before signing with the Flash late last season. Wilo gave the Flash a spark, compiling 11 points in just four games. With the Mustangs, Martinez has been no less flashy. His hat trick in Cincinnati paced a 7-6 win for Chicago, who improved to 2-0.

Kick Starters - Conversations you should be having about the PASL

Today North America, Tomorrow the World

The PASL unveiled preliminary plans for a 16-nation arena world championship to be played on US soil in February, 2015. Sockers coach Phil Salvagio was reintroduced as the head man for the US National Arena Soccer Team and the Valley View Casino Center was announced as one of the venues for the tournament.

Let's Go Streaking

San Diego and Detroit went 8-0 at home last year, but both lost their home openers. The Illinois Piasa would rather not have extended their streak, but they fell 9-8 at Wichita, their 9th straight road loss.

Cold Over Hot

In a battle of temperatures, the Cleveland Freeze were all over the Harrisburg Heat. The Freeze won their first ever home game, 11-3 before a sold out crowd at the Soccer Sportsplex. Allen Eller had four goals and an assist and rookie Josh Grossman had three goals and two assists. It was also the first professional indoor win for Head Coach Hector Marinaro.

Pina Exacts Revenge

Manolo Pina, who played one game for the Sacramento Surge last year, returned as a member of the Bay Area Rosal and racked up three goals and three assists in a 12-5 win. Pina, 25, is second in the league in scoring with 12 points

Cuauhtémoc Blanco to Appear at La Fiera Game Sunday
