Professional Arena Soccer League Update

January 15, 2013 - Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL) News Release

Legends, Heat, Sidekicks Line Up For Turn at Ending Sockers Streak

1/15/13 - Five teams have survived the first 2 1/2 months of the PASL season nearly unscathed. The San Diego Sockers, Dallas Sidekicks, Las Vegas Legends, Chicago Mustangs, and Detroit Waza are a combined 47-6. Two of those losses came in Dallas and Chicago's head to head meetings that the teams split last week.

Now with the Sockers riding their 46-game winning streak, the Legends, Sidekicks, and Harrisburg Heat are next in line to take a shot at making history by ending the record streak.

The two biggest dates circled on the calendar are January 18 and January 27. On the 18th the Sockers (9-0) travel to Orleans Arena for the first time to take on the 10-1 Legends. On the 27th the Sockers will face the Sidekicks (currently 9-1) for the first time since the 2003-04 season. San Diego also visits 3-7 Harrisburg on January 25.

Player of the Week

Ricardo Lopes, Detroit Waza

With the Harrisburg Heat in town for two games, the Detroit Waza got an unexpected lift from little used Ricardo Lopes. Lopes had only played two games this year and seven last year, but he dropped a combined seven goals on the Heat as the Waza improved to 10-1. Lopes scored three goals on Sunday and followed that with four on Sunday including a first half hat trick.

Sockers Streaks at 33, 46

San Diego's regular season winning streak stands at 33. San Diego is also an all-time 30-0 at home during the regular season. Including playoffs, US Open games, and the FIFRA Club Championships, the Sockers have won 46 in a row, surpassing the US Pro Team Sports record of 40 set by the indoor football Sioux Falls Storm in 2008.

Magic Numbers

The Detroit Waza's magic number to clinch the Eastern Division fell to three. Las Vegas can clinch the Southwestern Division with one win or one Mexico loss. San Diego's magic number to clinch the Pacific Division is two.

Still Perfect in Their Own Ways

The San Diego Sockers (9-0) remain the league's only undefeated team, while the Sacramento Surge (0-11) and Texas Strikers (0-9) are the PASL's only winless teams.
