November 20, 2012 - Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL) News Release

Sockers Tie National Record Winning Streak

11/20/12 - The suspense lasted about 18 minutes and 56 seconds. The Arizona Storm took 1-0 and 2-1 leads over the San Diego Sockers, but by 3:56 of the second quarter the Sockers had a 3-2 lead and by the end they had unleashed an 18-3 avalanche on the Storm.

It was the 40th consecutive victory for the Sockers who can now break the Sioux Falls Storm record for most consecutive wins in US Team Sports history on Friday at home against Toros Mexico.

The Sockers are 3-0 this season and their two PASL MVPs, Kraig Chiles and Brian Farber, are on a record pace. Chiles with 11 goals in three games is on pace for a league record 58 and Farber, with 16 points in three games is on pace for 85, which would break Bernie Lilavois' record of 68.

Player of the Week

Mike Mason, Ohio Vortex

The second year goalkeeper has brought stability to the position for the Vortex who have frequently given up double-digit goals. Mason's 18 saves helped the Vortex win their first game of the season, 7-0 over the Illinois Piasa. His shutout was only the 5th in PASL history and the first since 2/5/11. Mason, 27, is 3-4 with a 6.02 GAA for the Vortex, who gave up over nine goals per game last year and lost 12-1 to Detroit without Mason last week.

Sockers Streaks at 27, 40

San Diego's regular season winning streak stands at 27. San Diego is also an all-time 26-0 at home during the regular season. Including playoffs, US Open games, and the FIFRA Club Championships, the Sockers have won 40 in a row, tying the US Pro Team Sports record of 40 set by the indoor football Sioux Falls Storm in 2008.

Lee for Three

The Tacoma Stars ended an 11-game losing streak by tipping the Turlock Express 9-8 in overtime Saturday. Scoring the game-winner was Mark Lee, completing a hat trick. Lee scored three more on Sunday in Tacoma's 15-10 loss, but extended his personal hat trick streak to five straight games. Lee has a total of 17 goals in those five games.

Rivalry Week in the PASL

Each of this weekend's games feature teams playing their top geographical rivals. While these teams will be expected to generally loathe each other only Toros Mexico and the San Diego Sockers have actually met before. The rest of the games involve expansion teams. The top four teams in the Central Division are a combined 6-0 making the Dallas/Rio Grande Valley and Rockford/Chicago matchups particularly intriguing.
