
Continental Basketball League Announces Birmingham Steel As Newest Franchise

The Continental Basketball League is pleased to announce the addition of their fifth franchise, the Birmingham (AL) Steel. Commissioner Dennis Truax made the announcement on Friday.
The team will be owned by Richard Ashmon who played professional basketball in Europe and the U.S. minor leagues. Ashmon has also coached in the WBA, ABA, TPBL, along with summer pro-am teams in Chicago. Richard has also coached and worked with NBA players to help refine their skills. In his professional life, Ashmon owns and operates 52Sportsent, a company that assists basketball players in finding an agent. The company also manages professional musicians.
Ashmon will be the head coach and general manager. The Steel will be assisted by Jonathan Threatt and Charles Judkins. The Lady Steel Dance Team will be run by Ebonee Moore and Ashley Moore. DJ/PA Announcer Jeff Rose will be on the mic this season.
Commissioner Truax says of Ashmon, "Richard has a proven track record in the business and basketball worlds. His ideas for community outreach and involving at-risk youth with his team will be a model for the CBL."
The Continental Basketball League is a five team league based in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. The league will play a 16 game schedule with teams in Birmingham; Marietta, GA; Wilmington, NC; Fayetteville, NC and Savannah, GA.
