January 28, 2010 - Southern Indoor Football League (SIFL)
Albany Panthers News Release

ALBANY, GA (January 28, 2010) - The Albany Panthers of the Southern Indoor Football League will be holding their first official press conference on Friday January 29th at 11:00 am at the James H. Gray Civic Center where they are expected to name their first head coach.

Originally planned for this past Tuesday, the Albany Panthers will finally introduce their newest indoor football team to the city of Albany on Friday. At the conference, the Panthers will unveil their logo, introduce staff members, release the 2010 schedule, and name their first head coach, as well as layout their plans of moving forward for the next five years.

The current General Manager of the Panthers, Will Carter, has already been in place for nearly a month. Carter, a graduate of Kentucky-Wesleyan, is quite familiar with the city of Albany as he was once the Vice President of the former South Georgia Wildcats.

Last Friday, the Southern Indoor Football League released its 16-week game schedule. The club became the last team to join the six-team league and was given flexibility on the schedule, as the club will have two bye-weeks to begin the season.

Among the leading contenders to named head coach for the Panthers is Lucious Davis. Davis is the former defensive coordinator for the South Georgia Wildcats and had been with the Panthers staff since its previous ties to other ownership. Another seeking the position is David Daniels, veteran arena football coach who mostly recently served as an assistant coach under current Columbus Lions Head Coach Jason Gibson for two years.

Albany was the home of the AF2's South Georgia Wildcats for five seasons. The club has been in the playoffs the past three seasons one of which included a division title in 2008. In their five seasons, the Wildcats averaged 4,984 fans at the James H. Gray Civic Center.

"We are extremely excited and pumped about getting the chance to finally introduce ourselves to the city of Albany," says Albany Wildcats GM Will Carter. "We have all the hard work behind us and at last can bring indoor football back to the great fans of Albany."
