Lancaster JetHawks News Release

(LAKE ELSINORE, CA) - What started as a pitching duel between two strong starting pitchers turned into a pitching duel between two entire pitching staffs. A game that seemingly refused to end finally came to a conclusion in the 17th inning when Chris Jackson's double started a three-run inning that gave the JetHawks a hard-earned 5-3 win. Lancaster is now 3-1 in extra innings games this season.

The Lancaster pitching staff continued its string of strong outings. Starter Chris Hicks went six innings and allowed just a sixth inning solo homer. It looked like the effort would go for naught, but Jason Castro answered with a home run in the top of the seventh to tie the game.

A string of Lancaster relief pitchers kept the Storm in check. Bryan Hallberg hurled three and 2/3 innings without allowing a run followed by three shutout innings in the JetHawks debut of Jack Tilghman. They were matched, however, by the Storm as the game remained 1-1 into the 16th.

Jon Gaston hit a solo home run for Lancaster to put the JetHawks ahead, but the Storm answered for a run of their own to force a 17th inning. That frame started with Jackson's double. Ground balls by J.B. Shuck and Craig Corrado brought home Jackson, but the Storm booted them for errors, allowing both runners on base. After Castro was intentionally walked to load the bases, Koby Clemens singled to drive in two. Reid Kelly saved the game in the bottom of the inning, and the long game ended with the JetHawks win.

Gaston and Clemens each had three hits for Lancaster. Remarkably, all of Clemens' hits came after a regulation game would have been over.

The JetHawks and Storm still have one more game to wrap up their series. Jeff Icenogle (0-2) will pitch for Lancaster against Wynn Pelzer (5-1) of Lake Elsinore. The game will begin at 7:05 with the Pre-Game Show kicking of the radio broadcast at 6:50 on Magic 1340 AM and online at JetHawks.com.
