New Jersey Squires to Move to Philadelphia

March 25, 2004 - American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release

Indianapolis, IN. (March 25) The ABA today announced the approval of the New Jersey Squires to move to Philadelphia for the 2004-2005 season. According to Wayne Butler, majority owner, "My home is in Philadelphia; it's an area that I am very familiar with - and quite honestly, should have put the team here in the first place. It probably would have eliminated a number of problems our team experienced this past season. We'll be announcing our venue and plans at a press conference shortly. Meantime, it's good to be home."

According to Joe Newman, ABA Co-founder, "We're very pleased with Wayne's decision to move the team to Philadelphia. This will allow the ABA to add a New Jersey team that will be announced next week. This will also improve the divisional play picture. Definitely a win-win situation."

The ABA has announced ten expansion teams for next season and anticipates additional announcements in the coming weeks.
