Baseline-WBA Stars hang on to beat Fort McPherson 97-88

Atlanta, Georgia - The Baseline-WBA Stars lead by as may as 22 versus the Fort McPherson Knights, eventually surviving a late run to take a 97-88 victory Sunday afternoon at Fort Gillem Army Base. Baseline's fast pace offensive attack and strong zone defense threw the Knights off, as the Stars built a large first half lead, taking a 49-31 spread into the intermission.
The Knights, behind Ricky James' 21 second half points, caught fire in the second half and rallied to trim the score to 87-84 with only 2:30 remaining. But, Joe Hamilton sank a turn around jumper in the lane, followed by a pull up 12 footer by Adrian Jones, to put Baseline back up by seven. The Knights were forced to scramble defensively and the Stars went 4 of 5 from the line down the stretch to ice the victory.
Baseline's Hamilton, playing the Center position, repeatedly posted up the McPherson interior players, enroute to a game high 42 points. Also for the Stars, former Tougaloo College star DeJuan Clark hit 21, while Jones finished with 20 and Jonathan Reed 7. James finished with 26 for McPherson, while Kevin Lewis had 20, Calvin Artis 17 and Ricky Gully 10.
The Baseline-WBA Stars will now travel to Morrow, Georgia on Monday night to take on Clayton State University in a 7:30pm Exhibition Matchup. Clayton State is ranked #9 in the NCAA Division II Pre-season National Rankings. Baseline is 1-2 alltime against the Lakers.
BASELINE NOTES: Sunday's win moves Baseline's overall 2004-5 record to 29-6 and 8-4 on the tour season portion of the schedule. Martinique National Team officials informed Baseline they will not be able to play the three games that were postponed last week, thus giving the Stars forfeit wins for those scheduled matchups. The Stars also defeated Mt. Olive 86-82 on Saturday night. Baseline will also visit #14 ranked Georgia Perimeter College in Decatur, Georgia on Tuesday night, before leaving Friday morning to play in the Tougaloo Classic in Mississippi. The Stars will play State University of New Orleans on Friday evening, then Tougaloo College on Saturday afternoon. ======================================================================
