Passion Fashion!

Each October, St. Barnabas Charitable Foundation hosts a day of pampering. Guests are treated to free spa services such as massages, makeovers and manicures. A tasty lunch is served buffet-style in the elegant Mount Vernon Restaurant. Vendors line the halls of The Washington Place selling jewelry, makeup, and an array of novelties such as handmade scarves, glassware and candles. There are raffle baskets, door prizes and a 50/50 raffle. The day is topped off with a Celebrity Fashion show emceed by Newlin Archinal of WPXI-TV. The celebrities for the show include sports figures, politicians, CEOs and local celebrities who make an appearance on the runway.

This year The Pittsburgh Passion's own Jennifer Cairns (running back # 44) and Janice Nissel (wide receiver #85) and her daughter Bella were among the celebrity models featured in the fashion show.

Proceeds from the event benefited the St. Barnabas Charitable Foundation's Free Care Fund, which annually provides more than $5.5 million in free care to needy nursing home patients.

Former Women's Football Player Takes on Coaching!

PA-Bucknell head softball coach, Heather Rakosik, announced the hiring of Chrissy Fowler as assistant coach. Fowler is a 2002 graduate of Ohio State University and a former football player in the National Women's Football Association.

She was a senior captain on the 2002 Buckeye softball team that is considered to have posted one of the most impressive campaigns in Buckeye history with a 55-14 overall record and runner-up finishes in the Big Ten, the Big Ten tournament and the NCAA Region 6 tournament. Advancing to the Sweet Sixteen round of the NCAA tournament, the Buckeyes came within a few runs of a trip to The College World Series.

Fowler continued her athletic and academic pursuits. She went on to pursue a liberal arts master's degree in women's studies at Ohio State, while teaching undergraduate courses in the women's studies and humanities departments. Fowler joined the National Women's Football Association's team in Columbus. The 2002-03 captain of the team, Fowler led the team to a second-place league finish in the program's inaugural season. An Eastern Division All-Star at both wide receiver and special teams, Fowler retired in 2004 to return to her alma mater as a member of the softball coaching staff. "We are going to miss Chrissy very much," states Columbus Comets team owner Lori Davis. "We wish her the best in her coaching career," adds Davis.

Fowler, who also has coaching experience as head coach of the Lady Rebels U-14 traveling team, was a primary recruiter for OSU. At Bucknell, Fowler will serve as recruiting coordinator while primarily working with the Bison outfielders. She will be part of a three-person coaching staff.

DC Divas Hosting Tryouts

The D.C. Divas women's professional football team will hold tryouts for the 2005 season on December 4th and December 11th from 11:00 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Cole Field House on the University of Maryland campus in College Park, MD. Registration is from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. All women who desire to play full-contact football are invited to try out. Prior football experience is not necessary; just the motivation to learn. The D.C. Divas are the 2004 Mid Atlantic Division champions of the National Women's Football Association (NWFA). They finished last season with 9 and 1 record and were also the 2003 NWFA Mid Atlantic Division champions.

AUSTIN OUTLAWS ANNOUNCE TRYOUTS

The Austin Outlaws Women's Football Team will be hosting tryouts for the 2005 season beginning in December. The 2004 Austin Outlaws had an outstanding season with a record of 5-3 in addition to racking up some record breaking offensive stats.

You do not need to know anything about football as long as you have the desire to work hard and to learn the game. "We are mostly looking for women who love the game and who want to put forth the effort be a part of something incredible. We're a great team, we work well together - so we're looking for women who will add to that with some exciting new enthusiasm and a desire to succeed" states general manager Lily Messina, "all the details around the game can be taught in the preseason."

Tryouts will be held during two consecutive weekends: Saturday, December 4th - Sunday, December 5th and Saturday, December 11th - Sunday, December 12th. Registration begins at 9:00am, with actual tryouts starting at 10:00am going no later than 2:00pm. The location will be Bedichek Middle School.

CT Crush Hosting Tryouts!

The Connecticut Crush, members of the National Women's Football Team, have announced tryout dates for the 2005 season.

Tryouts will be held on Sunday'- November 14th at the Sports World Indoor Complex 226 Main Street, East Windsor, CT. 06088. Registration begins at 11:00am. Anyone interested in playing, coaching or volunteering for the team should attend. There is a one time tryout fee of $35.00. Participants should dress in comfortable clothing and provide proof of health insurance. No prior football experience is necessary.

NASHVILLE DREAM TRYOUTS

The Nashville Dream Women¹s Football Team will hold tryouts for the 2005 season on Saturday, November 13th from 9:00 am - Noon at Coleman Park in Antioch, TN. Registration is from 8:30 - 9:00 am. All women interested in playing full-contact football are invited to attend. You must be at least 18, and have your own health insurance. Please wear comfortable clothes and gym shoes. Wear cleats if you have them. You do not need to know the rules of football or how to play the game. Just a desire to learn. There is a one time registration fee of $35.00. The Dream, the original member of the National Women¹s Football Association (NWFA), will be heading into their 6th season. They have finished the last three seasons with records of 7-1, 5-3, and 7-1 respectively, qualifying for the playoffs all three seasons.

Emerald Coast Sharks Announce Head Coach/Tryouts! (Panama City, FL)

Emerald Coast Sharks owner Charles E. Rowan, Jr., announced the new head coach of the team today, David L. Freeland. Freeland was the head coach of the former NWFA Franchise team, the Panama City Rumble.

Freeland has been keeping in touch with the former Rumble players and they are eager to get back to playing ball. Freeland was head coach of the Rumble for the 2003 season. Freeland has been brought aboard the Sharks to help bring women's football back to Panama City and the Emerald Coast of Florida.

Tryouts will be held on Saturday, November 13, 2004, at 9am. Tryouts will be held at the Frank Brown Park, 16200 Panama City Beach Parkway, Panama City Beach, FL.

Rowan, along with Sam Terry, VP Operations/Marketing, and David Freeland, Head Coach, will be present for the tryouts. The team is looking for as many women to come out and show that men aren ‚¬â„¢t the only ones that can play full contact football.
