Wichita Falls Thunder News Release

(WICHITA FALLS, TX) – The Wichita Falls Thunder Football team announced today that Keeth Matheny verbally resigned for personal reasons as Head Coach for the Wichita Falls Thunder. After a successful season as the offensive coordinator for Rider High school under Head Coach Scott Ponder, Matheny has accepted the offensive coordinator position at Missouri Southern University.

"We wish Coach Matheny the absolute best. We respect his decision and we will support him in any way possible to make this an easy transition," said Thunder Vice President H.-P. Schuele. "This is unfortunate timing for the Thunder organization, but coach Matheny has laid the ground work for a very successful indoor football team in Wichita Falls."

The Thunder organization has already begun the interview process based on Matheny's recommendations for his replacement. In addition, Matheny will continue to support the team through the invitational tryout on January 17 and the planned training camp. With the first game not scheduled until March 20, 2004 in Waco, Texas, there is ample time to get the team ready.

According to league rules, teams cannot practice until 4 weeks before the start of season in March. This will give the new head coach the opportunity to establish the playing roster and to practice with the team from the very beginning.
