Sioux Falls Stampede News Release

Green Bay, WI-The Sioux Falls Stampede ended a stretch of six games in ten days and three games in three straight days on Sunday afternoon in Green Bay. The Herd simply didn't have enough to power past the Green Bay Gamblers, falling 2-0 Sunday afternoon at the Resch Center. It marks this first time this season the Herd have been shutout.

The Herd finish the first month of the season with a 4-4-2 record and 4-2-1 on the road. The Gamblers scored twice in the first period and Maksim Zhukov stopped all 37 shots faced to earn the shutout in goal. Mikhail Berdin stopped 37 of 39 shots in goal for the Herd.

The game started the exact opposite of what the Herd had hoped for, a Green Bay goal just 2:03 into the game. Mikhail Berdin tried the clear the puck up the boards, but hit his own defenseman and the puck bounced onto the tap of Noah Prokop who sent a pass into the slot to Paul Maust who wristed a shot into the net for a 1-0 lead. Things settled down after that and the Herd outshot the Gamblers 9-6 before Green Bay turned on the jets and finished the period on a 13-0 run. The Gamblers made it 2-0 at 13:47 when Trenton Bliss picked up a loose puck in front of the goal and scored on the powerplay for a two-goal advantage. Green Bay outshot Sioux Falls 19-9 in the period.

Sioux Falls outshot the Gamblers 17-8 in the second period, including a four-minute power play opportunity, but were unable to get anything past Maksim Zhukov and the game remained 2-0 heading into the third period.

The Stampede receive a couple more powerplay opportunities in the third, but were once again shutdown by the Gamblers defense and Zhukov. The Herd pulled Berdin with just under two minutes remaining in regulation for an extra attacker and put pressure on the Gamblers, but couldn't get the puck to bounce their way into the net and found themselves on the wrong end of a 2-0 decision.

Green Bay outshot the Herd 12-11 in the third period and 39-37 in the game. Green Bay finished the afternoon, 1-for-2 on the power play while killing off all seven Stampede power play opportunities.

The Stampede return home to the PREMIER Center this Saturday when they host the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders at 7:05 PM. It is also Pink in the Rink Night, presented by Sioux Falls Specialty Hospital.
