Eagles host Jr. Blues for first time this season

The Soo Eagles will be at home this Friday and Saturday night, as they host the Springfield Jr. Blues, for the first time this season at Pullar Stadium. Gametime is 7:30 p.m. both nights.

These two teams met earlier this month in Springfield, Illinois. The Jr. Blues defeated the Eagles, 5-3 in the first game of the series, with the Eagles coming back to win the next night, 5-2. The Eagles currently are in second place in the NAHL's North Division (14-6-3), three points behind the Jamestown Ironmen, with a game in hand. The Jr. Blues are in sixth place tie in the North Division (10-12-2) with the Janesville Jets.

These teams will square off four more times this season. The Eagles will travel to Springfield on February 22-23, while the Jr. Blues will visit the Pullar one more time during the regular season on March 22-23.

This weekend all middle school and high school students, with their school ID, can enter a drawing for an X-Box 360. The X-Box winner will be drawn on Sault High Appreciation Night on December 29th.

Friday night, the first 100 fans will receive an Eagles tote bag. Friday is also group fundraiser night, and the kick off of the brand new Soo Eagles Booster Club.

Saturday night, LSSU Enactus and Cloverland Electric will be giving away CFL light bulbs. There will also be a skate with the Eagles after the game.

Bowl with the Eagles this Sunday Bowling with the Eagles is coming up on Sunday December 2 at 6:00pm at Dondee Lanes Admission is $10.00 and it includes bowling, shoes, and snacks. Also prizes and a great chance to get autographs from your favorite Eagles player. You can purchase tickets from any Soo Eagles player or call Eagles office at 259-0522, you can also purchase tickets at the door. All proceeds go to help needy families in the area, during the holiday season.

Eagles split pre-holiday series with Warriors

The Soo Eagles were idle last week, and players, coaches, and staff were able to get some rest and spend time at home with their families. Before the break, the Eagles split a pair of games with the Michigan Warriors, at Pullar Stadium. The much improved Warriors took the opening game of the series, 4-2, before the Eagles bounced back the next night and earned a 3-1 victory.

Here is a recap of the games from two weekends ago:

Michigan Warriors 4, Soo Eagles 2 - Saturday, November 17, 2012 The game between the Michigan Warriors and the Soo Eagles was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Michigan emerged with a 4-2 win.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Levi Erkkila at 5:27 of the third period.

The Warriors were sparked by Erkkila, who racked up one goal.

Michigan managed to stay out of the box better than usual, tallying one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Warriors finished below its season average of 13.0 penalty minutes per game. Michigan surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Warriors have scored at the pace of 1.9 goal per game during the current campaign. The 36 shots that Michigan put on net surpassed the Warriors' average of 25.9 shots per game this season.

Michigan also got a goal from Zack Szajner as well. More assists for Michigan came via Martin Gruse, who had two and Sean Campbell, Colin Larkin, and Brad Pizzey, who each chipped in one.

Soo managed to stay out of the box better than usual, totaling one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Eagles ended up below its season average of 16.0 penalty minutes per game. With 37 shots on target during the contest, Soo exceeded the 28.6 shots it averages per game this year.

The Eagles were helped by Chris Waterstreet, who registered one goal. Waterstreet scored 19:09 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Michigan. Robin Hoglund picked up the assist. Kyle Froese also scored for Soo. In addition, Soo received assists from Michael Crowley, who had one.

Dillion Kelley recorded 35 saves for Michigan. The Warriors registered zero goals on one power play opportunities. Tyler Marble made 32 saves for Soo on 34 shots. The Eagles registered zero goals on one power play opportunities.

Soo Eagles 3, Michigan Warriors 1 - Sunday, November 18, 2012 The Soo Eagles survived a determined comeback attempt by the Michigan Warriors on the way to a 3-1 win.

Soo took a 3-0 lead during the second period, only to have Michigan storm back on a Jon Farkas goal 4:43 into the third period to pull to two goals down.

The Eagles were sparked by Alexander Taulien, who registered one goal. Taulien scored 16:06 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Soo. Michael Crowley picked up the assist.

The 40 shots that Soo put on net surpassed the Eagles' average of 27.7 shots per game this season.

Robin Hoglund also scored for Soo. Other players who recorded assists for Soo were Cody Von Reuden, who had two and Pat Gazzillo and Layne Martin, who each chipped in one.

The Warriors were below their usual level of shot production, taking 20 shots compared to the 26.5 Michigan averages.

In addition, Michigan received assists from AJ Marcinek and Brock Labelle, who contributed one a piece.

Soo's Zach Nagelvoort stopped 19 shots out of the 20 that he faced. The Eagles incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Dillion Kelley took the loss and made 24 saves before being replaced by Trevor Gorsuch who made 13 saves. The Warriors incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
