Abilene Ruff Riders News Release

The Abilene Ruff Riders are excited to announce the signing of returning defensive lineman Vantrise Studivant. Studivant played his college football at Rutgers University before finishing his career at Abilene Christian University. Studivant was a defensive standout for the Ruff Riders last season while starting in 13 games for the organization.

Coach Brannen on the 6'4" 255 pound Studivant, "Vantrise brings so much to our organization. He is a guy that I feel will perform at a consistent level for us all year. Vantrise is a guy that has the potential play at the next level and he could be a guy that finds himself playing in a higher league this year with the way I expect him to perform. He possesses the combination of size, speed, strength and aggression that will allow him to make a lot of plays for us defensively. He is also a talented athlete that will be lining up at defensive end, linebacker, fullback, and tight end. Studivant gives us a lot of options on the football field and create mismatches by his athleticism alone. I am very excited to have Vantrise back this season and I am eager to see him in action."

The Red and Black have also inked former Hardin-Simmons offensive lineman Tye Conry to a contract for the 2012 season. The 6'2"310 pound lineman joins the Ruff Riders for his first professional football stint. While at Hardin-Simmons Conry was named 1st Team All-ASC, 1st Team AFCA All American, D3footbal.com 3rd Team All American, and also participated in the Aztec Bowl in which puts the top Division 3 All-Stars against the Mexican National Team. A side note to the Division 3 All-Star honor that Tye earned, Coach Brannen, himself participated in this game after graduation.

"I am extremely excited to get Tye into camp to see what he can do. He has an impressive football resume from his time at Hardin-Simmons. He has all the tools you look for in your offensive lineman, the biggest thing I am anxious to see is how quickly he picks up the nuances of the indoor game. He is an intelligent kid that learns fast, when you mix that with the coaching he will receive from offensive line coach Doug Bond, I think we will have a guy on our hands that can really help this organization," stated Coach Brannen.

The Ruff Riders are anxious to see the talent Coach Brannen has compiled during the signing period. Scott A. Anderson, Owner Spokesman, commented "The ownership group is more excited than any prior year with the talent Joe has signed. Joe understands Abilene and has signed guys that fit into the Abilene Culture and are great players. We are expecting great things on the field this year which combined with the new entertainment coming on March 31st will make this the best year ever for the Ruff Riders."
