TRAVIS, DAVIS & JONES TABBED IPFL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
IPFL Press Release
Omaha made a clean sweep of the week eight honors for Indoor Professional Football League (IPFL) players of the week. Quarterback Troy Travis (6-3, 240) is the IPFL Offensive Player of the Week, defensive back Pat Davis (5-9, 180) is the IPFL Defensive Player of the Week, and running back/ kick returner Calvin Jones (6-1, 210) is the IPFL Special Teams Player of the Week. All three played a major role as Omaha scored a league-record 72 points in Saturday's win over previously undefeated Tennessee.
Facing the league's top-rated defense, Travis rushed for three scores and passed for four touchdowns. Through the air he was 11-14-0 passing for 160 yards. In the second quarter he threw a pair of touchdown strikes to wide receiver Quincy Kenoly. The first covered 11 yards while the second was a 25-yard pass that staked the Beef to a 36-29 halftime lead. In the second half he connected with Herman Gordon from 30 yards out and Steve Lovell on a nine-yard scoring pass. On the ground Travis also tallied a six-yard touchdown run, as well as a pair of one-yard scores.
Davis was a major thorn in the side of Tennessee quarterback Derek Brown. Davis picked off three passes and had four tackles (three unassisted and one assisted). On the first play of the second quarter, Davis intercepted his first pass of the game and returned it 11 yards for a touchdown.
Jones returned three kickoffs for 81 yards. After Tennessee scored the game's first touchdown, Jones returned the ensuing kickoff 50 yards for his IPFL career-record seventh kickoff return for a touchdown. In addition to his three returns, Jones also rushed for 17 yards.
