COLUMBUS, Ohio - Despite success early on, the Ohio Machine were defeated at the hands of the Denver Outlaws 17-13 at Fortress Obetz on Saturday night.

Both teams opened the game with two-point goals. Denver's Romar Dennis scored first and Peter Baum responded two minutes later to score his own to tie the game. Tyler Pfister added his first goal with nine minutes left in the quarter to give the Machine (2-7) their first. Denver's Zach Currier responded with less than five to play in the first quarter, tying the score at 3-3. 10 seconds later, defender Zach Bryant scored to give the Machine the lead that they would take into the second quarter.

Denver (6-4) outscored the Machine 6-3 in the second quarter to take a 9-7 lead at the half. Brandon Mangan recorded his first point for the Machine since being added to the roster, scoring just a minute into the quarter. Denver rattled off two to tie the game at five with just over four minutes to play in the half. Marcus Holman and Peter Baum added goals for the Machine, but three consecutive goals by Mike Schlosser and a goal with 15 seconds to play by Zach Currier gave the Outlaws the lead at the half.

In the third quarter, Holman and Mangan added one a piece for the Machine. The Outlaws took advantage of critical possessions to extend their lead to four.

Peter Baum ended the 12 minute scoring drought for both teams, scoring his third of the game 6:35 into the fourth quarter. He scored less than a minute later to put the Machine within two of Denver. The Outlaws went on to score three in a row to widen their lead to five. Holman scored his first two-pointer of the season in a last minute effort to push the Machine back into the game. Christopher Cloutier scored his sixth of the game to give the Outlaws the final 17-13 win over the Machine.

"I thought we came out and we battled," said head coach Bear Davis. "I like what I saw from some of the new guys and young guys. The young defense played aggressive and physical. We definitely competed and I'm not sure we did that the first time we played Denver."

Bryant, a rookie defenseman for the Machine out of Robert Morris, scored his first career goal of his MLL career. The duo of Holman and Mangan connected on three goals in the contest. The Ohio Machine drop this season's series against the Denver Outlaws 0-2.

Next up for the Machine is a trip to New York as they take on the Lizards on Saturday, June 30 at 7:00 p.m.
