Detroit Drive News Release
Chicago Rush fullback/linebacker Bob McMillen - winner of the team's Walter Payton Award for community service after each of the last two seasons -will serve as spokesperson for the Little City Foundation's upcoming "Ride For Smiles" and "Smiles Tag Days," the Rush announced today.
"It is an honor to represent such an outstanding organization like Little City," said McMillen. "What's happening at Little City is great. Recently, I visited the campus and met some of the children, adults and employees. I look forward to helping raise money and awareness so people can continue to benefit from the services Little City offers."
Little City's mission is to provide state-of-the art services to help children and adults with mental retardation or other developmental, emotional and behavioral challenges to lead meaningful, productive and dignified lives.
"With the occasional bad rap being given to some sports celebrities for selfish or boorish behavior, it is very refreshing and inspiring to come across an individual like Bob McMillen who so generously and humbly gives all of himself on the playing field and in the charitable community," said Shawn Jeffers, Little City's executive director. "Everyone at Little City sincerely appreciates his tireless support and commitment to children and adults with disabilities."
The third annual "Ride for Smiles" will take place Saturday, September 10. The motorcycle ride will begin from Little City's Palatine campus, located at 1760 W. Algonquin Road, and travel to Woodstock, concluding at Woodstock Harley-Davidson.
The 31st "Smiles Tag Days" will be September 15-17 at street intersections across Chicagoland, where Little City volunteers will be collecting money to go directly toward Little City's operating costs.
To participate in the ride, volunteer or make a donation, please call Little City at (847) 221-7840, or visit www.littlecity.org.
