Juarez Group Moves to Tecate

Today, the Juarez Investment Group of the Juarez Halcones Baseball Group approved the move of the franchise to Tecate, Baja California.
Several circumstances were involved in the move. Legal complications concerning americans owning companies in Mexico, and another being, the owner of the stadium not starting the renovations required as agreed upon last fall.
The League has Facility Standards that must be met. The manager of the company that owns the stadium had agreed last October to begin major work that included the repair of the grandstand roof. "We were told that repairs in the amount of $150,000 would begin in February or early March." said Bob Lipp, President.
That, and along with a major delay in obtaining the proper paperwork to commence operations on a timely basis, the Juarez Investment Group have asked to be included in the Tecate franchise. So it be, the Juarez Club has become the Tecate Cerveceros.
This summer the league and the Juarez Investment Group will formally submit to the stadium owners a proposal that must be met within a time frame for a Arizona-Mexico League Club in Juarez to be considered for 2004.
The move became official today, as Bob Lipp, League President, was in Tecate to secure the stadium agreement for the Majority Group that is purchasing the Tecate franchise.
John Shinn has been named Pitching Coach of the Club. Shinn was born in El Centro, California but has called San Diego his home for many years. He has been an associate scout for the Atlanta Braves for 7 years and the Pitching Coach for the North County Waves, a top NBC summer college team from San Diego for the last 5. 28 former pitchers from the Waves' are currently playing professional baseball with one currently in the Major Leagues.
