Fourth and Final Open Tryout for the WC Rumble
December 1, 2006 - Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL)
Summit County Rumble News Release
For the fourth time in four months, the Rumble will hold an open tryout to find football players to fill out it's roster for the inaugural 2007 season in Wooster. This will be the last open tryout for players hoping to fulfill dreams of playing the sport professionally.
Pinnacle Sports in Medina will be the host for this workout, scheduled for Sunday, December 17th from 9 to 11am. "There will be no Ohio State/Michigan game to conflict with this tryout," says Director of Operations Sean Morley. The Rumble's last tryout was unfortunately scheduled for the same day as the battle between the Big Ten unbeatens back on November 19th. "Even driving back from Toledo I was able to make it home for kickoff, but the game definitely had an impact on attendance last month."
Head Coach Moe Cooper is also happy to see the 2006 collegiate schedule come to an end. "The schools we recruit from, most of them have finished their seasons, or will have finished by the time the 17th comes around. We have something to offer to those seniors who have completed their college careers but still have a lot of football left in them." The Buckeyes, of course, will still be playing into January when they meet likely opponent USC for the National Championship in Glendale, AZ. When asked what the chances were of the Rumble landing a QB like OSU's Troy Smith, Cooper was being realistic when he said there was a "0.0% chance" of seeing the probable Heisman winner in a Rumble uniform. "On the other hand, I know his backup down in Columbus has Wayne County roots and we'll make a strong push to bring Justin Zwick back home to play for us."
Following the final workout will be a mandatory one day mini-camp on January 21st for all Rumble signees. This practice session will be the first time the coaching staff will get a good look at all of the players they have signed up to this point together at one time. It will be held at the Alice Noble Ice Arena, the 2007 home of the Rumble, and will be open to the public. There is no admission charge.
The team hopes fans will take this opportunity to select their seats for the upcoming season. Season tickets are selling well and sections with seats still available will be clearly marked in the arena so fans can choose where they would like to sit as they root on the Rumble to bring the CIFL Championship to Wayne County.
