Jackson Generals News Release

Jackson, Tenn. - The Generals caught the potential tying run between third and home, securing a 4-3 victory over the Birmingham Barons Thursday night at The Ballpark at Jackson. Four early runs helped Jackson earn its fourth-straight win to close out the series.

For the third time in the series, Jackson (10-4) scored in the opening inning. Down a run, the Generals rallied with two outs to plate a pair. Tyler O'Neill singled and came home on a double by Leon Landry. D.J. Peterson followed with a broken-bat double to make it 2-1.

In the second, the Generals got to Birmingham's Brandon Brennan (1-2, 10.50) again. With the bases loaded on two occasions, Jackson got sacrifice flies from Guillermo Heredia and Tyler O'Neill to extend their lead to 4-1.

Brett Ash (2-1, 2.87) cruised through five innings and earned his second victory of 2016. The righty gave up just the one run in the first on five hits while striking out a season-high five. After the run on two hits in the first, Ash only allowed two runners to reach scoring position.

Birmingham (5-10) got back into the game against Jordan Pries in the eighth. After two perfect frames, Pries allowed two to score in the eighth on two hits, a sacrifice fly and a passed ball. Dan Altavilla retired Marcus Lemon with the tying run on base to end the threat.

Altavilla (S, 3) ran into trouble in the ninth, but ultimately picked up his third save of the season. Keenyn Walker drew a walk to lead off and was sacrificed to second by Adam Engel. Joey DeMichele lined out to centerfield, bringing Eudy Pina to the dish with two outs. Pina hit a ground ball to shortstop, but Benji Gonzalez's throw to first was offline. Luckily, Walker was caught in a rundown between third and home to end the game.

Jackson tied a season-low with six hits, but still managed to pick up a victory in Thursday's series finale. The team that scored last wound up winning all five games in the series.

The Generals hit the road Friday for a five-game set with Pensacola at Blue Wahoos Stadium. Dylan Unsworth (0-0, 1.86) is scheduled to start for Jackson opposite Pensacola right-hander Daniel Wright (2-0, 0.96). First pitch from the bay is slated for 6:30 pm CT, and you can listen to all the action on the TJ Network (AM 1390, FM 94.1) starting at 6:15 pm CT with the Generals Pregame Show.
