Alabama Outlawz Set for Home Opener

The Alabama Outlawz (1-0) will open up their first ever home game in a different type of scoring with the X-League Rules of football against St. Louis Attack Friday, April 4th at 7pm. The game will be played at the Birmingham Crossplex Bill Harris Arena. Head Coach Lee Ellison will like to have a full house on Friday. The Outlawz are coming off an impressive come from behind victory after being down 35-11 at halftime to score in the final 34 seconds and stun the Georgia Rampage 44-42 March 3rd on the road in Dalton, Georgia. After a month off from live action the Outlawz are ready to play in front of their home crowd against the St. Louis Attack. The Attack (1-0) escapes a strong rally from the Rampage with a 46-34 victory on Sunday at home. This will be their first road trip of the year when they visit Birmingham Crossplex Bill Harris Arena on Friday. Head Coach Lee Ellison will turn to his defense anchored by former Erwin Jerrard "Superman" Jones and Rob Taylor to keep pressure on St. Louis QB's Brandon Walsh. The secondary will be guided by Defensive Backs Dion Luster (Concordia College) and Byron James (Jacksonville State) will try to make it difficult for the Attack offense to catch any St. Louis rhythm. Coach Lee would like to make a statement early rather that play from behind and duplicate another strong performance from his defense this week against the St. Louis offense.

Offensive Coordinator Mike Bonner will call on former UNC Pembroke QB Garrett Sutphen who completed 53% of his passes and going 16 of 30 143 yards passing 3 touchdowns and 3 interceptions in his first game. The ground game will look to lean on former Addison standout Rob Taylor. Taylor average 4.25 yards a carry against the Rampage. The Outlawz are deep and have some experience at wide receivers with Taurean Rhetta (Jacksonville State)2 rec 27 yards , and Marsellos Wilder (Jackson State) who caught 8 catches for 62 yards and 2 touchdowns including the game winner against Georgia in the final 34 seconds of the game. Rookie John Stelman (Miles College) had 3 receptions for 36 yards. Coach Bonner will select a kid from the stands to call the first play of every home game. If the Outlawz score on the first play Coach Bonner will honor the kid with a pizza party at the kid his school during the school year. Tickets are still available online at www.bamaoutlawz.com.
