Colorado Mammoth News Release
UNCASVILLE, CONN. - The weather wreaked havoc on the Mammoth this weekend - changed flights, delayed bags and snowstorms resulted in Sunday's game starting one hour late. But it couldn't stop Colorado from getting back in the win column as the Mammoth defeated the New England Black Wolves, 14-12, at Mohegan Sun Arena in Conn. to end a three-game skid.
"We've been struggling as of late," said Mammoth forward Adam Jones, who had four goals and three assists. "We knew that, with the adversity we were facing with our gear and that situation, to come out with a win would be a big momentum boost for us. We were just positive about the situation and it ended up working out for the better."
Colorado never trailed thanks in part to the hot shooting early from Jones, who scored three straight goals in the first quarter and added another in the second.
Defenseman Joey Cupido, playing in borrowed gear and a ball-boy's helmet, continued his torrid start to the season, netting two goals on the afternoon including a short-handed tally late in the fourth with the Mammoth up by one.
"I was very proud of the way the team battled, especially coming off those three losses," said Cupido. "We needed to put together a good game and we did. For me, it was a unique situation - something I've never experienced - but we got the gear and I managed to battle through and help us get a win today."
The Mammoth improved to 4-3 on the season and sit one-half game behind the West Division-leading Edmonton Rush. In defeat, the Black Wolves losing streak is now five games.
Former Mammoth goaltender Tye Belanger entered the game late in the first quarter. He allowed nine goals in relief of Black Wolves' starter Evan Kirk.
Colorado concludes the three-game road trip next Saturday in Buffalo before returning home on Fri., March 6 to take on the East Division-leading Toronto Rock on Blackout Night presented by Venture Technologies.
