Minnesota Swarm News Release

SAINT PAUL, Minn. - The National Lacrosse League's (NLL) Minnesota Swarm today announced that the team has acquired transition player Ethan O'Connor and a first-round selection in the 2017 NLL Entry Draft from the Toronto Rock in exchange for transition player Brock Sorensen.

"I'd like to thank Brock for his two years of service with Swarm," Swarm Owner and Governor John Arlotta said. "We were recently informed that Brock would be unable to play with us this season due to his job commitments, so this was the best situation for both sides. We're excited to add Ethan O'Connor who was a first-round pick last year and displayed a lot of promise during his rookie campaign in Toronto. He's a fast, athletic player who will fit in very well with our defensive schemes."

O'Connor, 22, appeared in 17 games with the Rock during his rookie season in 2014 and led the team with 133 loose balls, which also ranked first among rookies in the NLL. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound righty transition player also notched 15 forced turnovers and showcased a nice scoring touch, tallying five goals to go along with four assists. Toronto selected the Hobart College graduate in the first round (No. 9 overall) of the 2013 NLL Entry Draft. By acquiring O'Connor, the Swarm now has five of the nine first-round picks from last year's draft on their roster.

In three games against the Swarm in 2014, O'Connor recorded two goals, 23 loose balls, and eight forced turnovers, seven of which came in one game at The Hive during a 9-8 overtime victory on March 16. The Milton, Ontario native is also capable of taking draws, and finished his rookie season winning 48-of-113 faceoffs (.425).

Sorensen, 25, never missed a regular season game during his two-year career with the Swarm from 2013-14, and totaled 20 points (12g, 8a), 124 loose balls and 27 forced turnovers in 34 games. Minnesota acquired the Peterborough, Ontario native with the No. 2 overall selection in the 2012 NLL Entry Draft. The 6-foot-6, 220-pound transition player also appeared in two playoff games with the Swarm in 2013.
