Indy Fuel News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - A 6'0", 202 lb., left-handed shooting forward and Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario native, Brett Perlini signed with the Indy Fuel for the 2014-15 ECHL season, the team announced Friday. A seventh round NHL Draft selection of the Anaheim Ducks in 2010 (192nd overall), Perlini joins the Fuel for his third campaign in professional hockey after splitting time with the Greenville Road Warriors and Toledo Walleye last season.
"Brett has solid ECHL experience and some AHL experience under his belt," explained Fuel Head Coach and Vice President of Hockey Operations Scott Hillman on Friday. "He's got a real willingness to get to the dirty areas in front of the net and score those ugly goals...We believe he's on the verge of a breakout season."
In 91 career ECHL games spread over the past two seasons with Greenville, Toledo and the Bakersfield Condors, Perlini has 17 goals, 38 total points and 26 penalty minutes to his credit. In 2012-13, Perlini made his AHL debut, skating in a pair of games for the Lake Erie Monsters, the AHL affiliate of the NHL's Colorado Avalanche.
"It feels great to be headed to Indy," said Perlini on Friday. "It's a great city with a lot of hockey history and I'm glad to have my destination set for next season." A self-described "skilled forward," Perlini says he looks for offense on the ice more often than not. "I'm a bigger forward who likes to play with speed and skill," said Perlini. "I definitely would say I'm more of a shoot-first guy and I'm hoping to have a big year."
Prior to his professional career, Perlini played four seasons of college hockey for the Michigan State Spartans from 2008 to 2012. In 123 career CCHA games, Perlini, 24, potted 36 goals, 76 points and collected 48 combined penalty minutes. Perlini's signing with the Fuel reunites the scoring winger with recent Indy signee and former Michigan State teammate Dean Chelios, a fact that Perlini says, played a big hand in his decision to join the Fuel.
"[Dean] is definitely one of my best friends," said Perlini Friday. "We played together for three years at Michigan State and it'll be great to have him as a teammate again."
Before joining the Spartans, Perlini scored one goal and added four assists in 19 games played for the USHL's Ohio Junior Blue Jackets in the 2007-08 season, Perlini's lone campaign in junior hockey.
In 2014-15, the Indy Fuel, the proud "AA" affiliate of the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks and AHL's Rockford IceHogs, drop the puck on their first season in the ECHL. Season ticket packages for the Fuel's inaugural campaign are available now starting at just under $12 per game!
