February 26, 2014 - Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL) News Release
The Professional Arena Soccer League today announced its All-League First and Second Teams and for the 2013/14 season. Voting was conducted by league teams and the PASL front office.
Monterrey Flash defender Genoni Martinez led all voting as a near-consensus pick with 17 First Team votes. For the fourth straight year San Diego Sockers forward Kraig Chiles made the First Team. Martinez and Chiles were joined by Efrain "Wilo" Martinez of the Chicago Mustangs, Enrique Tovar and Alex Caceres of the Las Vegas Legends and Hidalgo La Fiera goalkeeper Juan Gamboa.
Genoni Martinez led the Flash in scoring as well as all defenders league-wide with 44 points. The Flash player/coach finished 12th in the league in points, third in assists, and first with 22 blocked shots.
"Wilo" Martinez was first in the PASL in points with 63 and tied for the league lead with 40 goals, spearheading the Mustangs offense that scored a league record 202 goals.
Chiles, the three-time reigning PASL MVP, overcame a slow start to finish fourth in the league with 60 points. Chiles scored a league-high six game-winning goals.
Tovar set a new PASL record with 40 assists and finished one point behind Efrain Martinez with 62 points. Tovar's teammate Alex Caceres piled up 25 goals in 13 games and both players scored at least one point in every appearance.
Second year goalkeeper Gamboa went 14-2 with a league-best 3.85 goals against average and was one of only two goalkeepers to start all 16 games. Gamboa is 21-3 since joining La Fiera midway through last season.
The All-League Second Team was led by Allen Eller and his Cleveland Freeze teammate Josh Grossman. Chicago Mustangs teammates Jesus Flores and Miguel Vaca, Dallas Sidekicks Jamie Lovegrove and Detroit Waza Flo Costea Decu rounded out the Second Team.
Eller led the voting for the Second Team marking his third appearance on the All-League rolls. Rookie Grossman received the second most First Team votes among defenders, but was third in overall voting at his position.
