Professional Arena Soccer League Update

December 3, 2013 - Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL) News Release

Eastern Division Tightens

12/3/13 - The two-time reigning Eastern Division champion Detroit Waza Flo (2-1) survived a major rally by the upstart Cleveland Freeze (3-2) to win 8-7 and pull into a tie for second place behind the Chicago Mustangs (4-0). Chicago kept the pace by grounding the Wichita B-52s, 9-5.

The Harrisburg Heat (2-3) came back from 6-4 down to defeat the Cincinnati Saints (2-3) 8-6 leaving both teams tied for fourth place.

The Illnois Piasa (1-4) gained sole possession of last place after dropping a close 8-7 decision at home to Wichita.

Player of the Week

Miki Djerisilo, Detroit Waza Flo

The PASL veteran has been the Waza's go-to offensive threat in the early-going this season, and Saturday was no different. Djerisilo, 40, scored four goals and an assist to pace Detroit to 4-0 and 6-4 leads. The Waza Flo eventually needed to rally from a 7-6 deficit after the Cleveland Freeze tied the game at 4-4 and 6-6. The big win improved Detroit to 2-1 and Djerisilo leads the team with seven goals and five assists on the season.

Kick Starters - Conversations you should be having about the PASL

Bishop Takes Queen City

The Harrisburg Heat's Sam Bishop inherited the starting goalkeeper's job when David Kern committed full-time to the outdoor Harrisburg City Islanders. Bishop went 2-0 last year, but can still be considered a rookie. With the Heat struggling to finish games and score goals, Bishop made a game-changing save in the third quarter of Saturday's game. The Heat were trailing 5-4 and Val Texieira had just misplayed a ball that probably should have tied the game. The Saints emerged with a 2v0 breakaway, but what should have been an easy tap in was thwarted by an amazing save by Bishop moving to his left. The 30 year old made several other standout saves as the Heat rallied from 6-4 down to win 8-6.

Jakubek Makes PASL Debut

Former MISL California Cougars goalkeeper Dominik Jakubek made his PASL debut Sunday for the Bay Area Rosal and picked up a big 5-2 win over the visiting Turlock Express. Jakubek, 34, did not follow the Cougars when they moved to the PASL in 2008, but he has played in the PASL-Premier.

PASL in Holiday Slowdown

The PASL is in the midst of the two lightest weekends of the season. There were only six games scheduled last weekend (not including US Open games) and only five on this weekend's slate. That all changes the weekend of December 12, which kicks off a season-high 13 games.
