Professional Arena Soccer League Update

November 26, 2013 - Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL) News Release

Home is Where the Heartache Is

11/26/13 - Either PASL host teams are too nice or road teams are poor guests, but there has been little advantage at home so far this year.

This week in particular, home teams combined to go a withering 2-8. Through four weeks, nine teams are still winless at home.

The PASL's current road warriors are the Las Vegas Legends, who won a classic 11-10 OT seesaw battle in Ontario Sunday. Las Vegas is 11-0 all-time on the road in the regular season, trailing only the San Diego Sockers 16 straight road win mark.

Overall home teams are 20-19, but Pacific Division teams are just 6-10 at home.

Player of the Week

Ivan Campos

The second year forward was a major offseason acquisition for the Legends after leading the Turlock Express in scoring last year. Campos has been an integral part of the Legends 5-0 start with 10 goals and nine assists. Ivan scored his biggest goal of the season Sunday when he dribbled through a maze and blasted a shot from the yellow line past Ontario Fury goalkeeper Sanaldo at 2:32 of overtime.

Going Above and Beyond

The PASL only had one game go to shootouts in five seasons, but there have already been two shootouts this season. The Wichita B-52s rallied from 4-0 down to tie the game at 5-5, but the Hidalgo La Fiera won the shootout 2-0. Seven games this season have been decided by overtime or shootouts.

Fear La Fiera

Hidalgo almost let leads get away twice in consecutive nights, but they came away with road wins in Tulsa and Wichita. On Friday, La Fiera had a 6-3 lead against the Tulsa Revolution, but needed overtime for a 7-6 win. Then in Wichita they needed shootouts for a 6-5 win after jumping out to a 4-0 lead. The narrow wins improved Hidalgo's record to 4-1 and they have won 12 of their last 13 regular season games.

Freeze Warning

Louis Kastelic, Steve Gillespie, and Mike Mason suffered through a 1-15 season with the Ohio Vortex last year. Allen Eller, Stefan Ostergren, John Ball and David Jordan also saw time with the Vortex. Now they are all a part of the Cleveland Freeze who are off to a 3-1 start and reside in second place in the Eastern Division. Gillespie led the Vortex in scoring last year with just six points in an injury-shortened five games. Five players already have six or more points including Eller who is fourth in the league with 15.
