NASL Clubs Learn Potential U.S. Open Cup Round Four Opponents
Published on May 22, 2013 under North American Soccer League (NASL) News Release
MIAMI, Fla. - The four North American Soccer League clubs plotting giant-killing acts in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup have learned their potential June 12 Fourth Round opponents - if they first beat Major League Soccer opposition next Tuesday.
NASL league leaders Carolina RailHawks aim to repeat last season's memorable defeat of MLS Cup champion Los Angeles Galaxy next midweek for a chance to exact revenge against Chivas USA, the club that knocked Colin Clarke's team out of the competition at the same stage in 2012. Or they could host the Los Angeles Blues if the USL PRO club defeats Chivas USA.
If the Atlanta Silverbacks can follow up their win over Georgia Revolution by winning away to Salt Lake City on May 28, they will host either the San Jose Earthquakes or Charleston Battery of USL PRO.
The reigning NASL champion Tampa Bay Rowdies will welcome Major League Soccer's Seattle Sounders FC to Al Lang Stadium in downtown St. Petersburg on May 29. Their Fourth Round reward, if they can upset the team that has won three of the last four Open Cup finals will be either a long-distance visit to the Portland Timbers, or a clash with Wilmington Hammerheads of USL PRO.
The Fort Lauderdale Strikers, dramatic penalty shootout winners over Laredo Heat on Tuesday night, face FC Dallas at Lockhart Stadium on Tuesday, May 28, targeting a clash either away to Houston Dynamo or against FC Tucson, the PDL side that ousted the San Antonio Scorpions.
